About
Greetings! I’m Donna Amis Davis, and I write fun, light-hearted mysteries set in beautiful places.
If you like mysteries, if you dislike swear words and explicit scenes in your books, if you like music, or cats, or beaches, or the ocean, or if you just like to escape the world and read, you’ll enjoy my books.
I like to walk on the beach and call it research. You can find me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DonnaAmisDavisAuthorPage/

I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
For most of my adult life, I was an expat, living and loving in the Philippines. I called the beautiful island of Palawan home for more than 30 years, so I’ve posted essays, articles, and links about Philippine issues, Palawan sights and sites, and interesting nuggets I’ve found about that fascinating place. You can find tips on all the places locals love to eat, both well-known and off-the-beaten-track.
I’ve written four novels set on the island of Palawan. You can find them at your favorite book retailer.

Most of those years my husband and I lived among one of the minority people groups here. In 2012 we finished translating the New Testament into the Palawano language, and the books are printed and are now in the hands of the Palawano people.
Interests include the plight of minority people groups, ecological issues, writing, reading, Asian cuisine and my three sweet grandkiddos. I love to walk with friends, swim, and snorkel. At the center of all is my relationship with Jesus Christ. My husband, Bill and I are both from San Diego, California. Our kids and their families are in Southern California, so our ties there remain strong.

Thanks for your comments on my blog. I loved Palawan when I was there, i will be interested to read all your stories!
Thanks, Kat! Glad you got to visit Palawan!
Hi Kat! Thanks for following my blog. Best of luck in your future travels.
Love your blog Donna! I’m so proud of you and Bill and all you have accomplished and now a budding author! You are such an inspiration to me. You confirm that it’s not all down hill from here! There is life after the kids are grown. Many, new, wonderful doors to open! Thanks dear, childhood friend!
Thank you for your very kind words, Melinda! It is sort of amazing how much energy and time frees up after the kids really launch. As much as I loved that phase of life, you are right – many, new, wonderful doors to open.
Hello Donna,
I’m a Filipina yet haven’t seen Palawan, I envy you in a good way 🙂
I’m glad you enjoy living there and loving it. Mabuhay!
Hi imexcited! Thanks for stopping by, and for ‘liking’ this blog. We love Palawan, and lots of other places in the Philippines, too. Have a very Happy New Year!!
Now I’m intrigued. If ever some winds will take me to Palawan, I think I’d write not about the place, but about you.
30 years? Wow – I’m just on my sixth month. Would love to meet when I get back down there, which I surely will in the coming months. I spent a few days in Puerto Princesa and El Nido during my first trip to the Philippines when Katrina was destroying New Orleans. I was amazed that the only fast food on the island (back then) was a Dunkin’ Donuts – http://eselteephotography.photoshelter.com/image/I0000sGvuBci9M0Q… Thanks for “liking” my pictures and blog.
P.S. if I wanted fast food I would have stayed in NY 🙂
That would be great. There’s still very few fastfood outlets here – we’ve got two Jollibees and a Chowking, and a Mr. Donut, and a couple of the smaller ones. But Puerto is terrific for locally owned, unique, picturesque eateries. And everything is about half the price of what you would pay in Manila. My husband and my favorites are mostly alfresco dining as well.
Glad to found your blog, Donna. My husband and I met in El Nido and consider that our won paradise on earth. We love Casa Linda in Puerto Princesa which you featured in another post. We stayed there way back in 2000 when we holidayed in El Nido but spent a few days in Puerto Princesa. We do miss Palawan and hope to come back one day with our little girl who for sure will be charmed by my lovely country. 😉
I’m glad you found the blog, too, Malou. Thank you for your kind comments and Likes. There is so much to love in the Philippines, and Palawan is particularly special, we think.
To have met your husband in El Nido! Now that is a fairy-tale beginning! Such a gorgeous place. Yes, do bring your little girl back over here one day. Our girls were raised here and love to come back, too. Now they are bringing our grandbabies.
So glad you found Casa Linda. It is a great little place, isn’t it?
Now I’m homesick. 🙁 Great to find your blog and happy to have another place to get my Philippines fix. May God bless your efforts on your blog and with your novel! I look forward to reading more.

Hi Kristen! Thanks for stopping by! There are some really great things about the Philippines, aren’t there? Lots to miss. Hope you can come back sometime and bring those five-in-tow. Wouldn’t that be a riot? Thanks for the kind words.
A beautiful blog on my mother’s home island. Thank you for bringing more awareness to this “Pearl of the Orient”.
oh my goodness, is it possible to ever have a bad day where you are? I should juxtapose any of your pictures next to a picture of where i work, and let all the sympathy emails pour in..lol
Hi! Thank you for visiting my blog 🙂
Hi Donna,
It put a smile on my face when I stumbled upon this blog this morning. First, because I’m happy to be reading about Palawan from a foreigner’s perspective. And second, because I love Palawan. I have been there several times.
Good luck and keep it up! Will be dropping in here as often as I can.
I know you got plenty of these so think of it as an honorable mention 🙂

Thank you so much, Chris! I appreciate it.
I like that you call yourself “gently weathered.”
Palawan really won your heart. : )
Happy to find your blog. My father is from Palawan, and I still have relatives living in Brooke’s Point. I have fond memories of when I was there as a child. I am planning to visit and spend some time there, maybe later this year/early 2013.
Hope you make it here. It will be fun to compare with your childhood memories. We like Brooke’s Point, too. Have spent a lot of time there over the years.
Oh my, with what I’ve seen so far about Puerto Princesa, I’m sure Brooke’s Point will have changed a lot too. I’m also tracing my family roots (six generations back, so far), so I’m definitely planning to spend some time in Palawan.
Also, I’ve nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. I’ve found your blog to be very inspiring. Enjoy!
Thank you for the honor, Marissa! I appreciate the award and your kind words. Are your family roots six generations back on Palawan, and in Brookes Point? We have a friend who is right now researching and writing a history of Brookes Point.
Hi Donna, I sent you a message via email. My response kind of got lengthy. Thanks!
Donna…*thank you* for the recent “like” on my blog. Palawan looks so beautiful I can feel it:) Someday I would love to visit there. I lived as an expat in Malaysia in the 1990s and it was a wonderful experience. How awesome that you are there to serve and love Jesus and people!
Malaysia is our neighbor, and from pictures I’ve seen, much of the countryside looks just like here. Thanks for your kind words, and for stopping by!
Hi Donna, I just nominated you for the Picture the World! project. Here’s the link to my post about the nomination. Please let me know if you’ll consider providing a photo of the Philippines!

Wow. You live in Palawan – such paradise. Hope to visit the island next year and hope to meet you Ms Donna 🙂
What a great blog to follow! We Filipinos of all people should boast our country’s richness. We thank you for being ‘one’ of us.
Hi Gertie! I am honored to be a guest here in your country. Thanks for stopping by, and for your kind comment!
You are very kind, Gertie. Thank YOU!
It is so amazing to know that a foreigner is representing and being a good amvassador to Philippines. It shows such nobility, generosity, and inspiration. A big Thank You.
Well, I don’t know about the nobility and generosity, but that sounds nice. The Philippines has been a gracious host to us for 30+ years now, and I enjoy sharing what is great about living here.
Hello Donna,I enjoy your blog and nominated it for the One Lovely Blog Award. You can see your nomination here: http://onthegowithlynne.wordpress.com/2012/08/27/one-lovely-blog-award/
Hi Donna! It’s so amazing to know that a foreign national like you have come to love this country like her own. Never been to Puerto Princesa but I have been to Coron and to El Nido and I must say these places are the most beautiful places I have been to in the Philippines. I hope I get to see Puerto next year too. I really admire you for writing so many good things about my beloved country. God bless!
You are fortunate to get to Coron and El Nido. I haven’t been to Coron yet, but would love to see it in person some day. In the meantime, I’ve enjoyed people’s pictures. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind words.
Hi Donna, thanks for dropping by my site. It is such a joy to have come across your site. I love Palawan! I’ve been there twice (Puerto Princesa and Coron) and I hope to return to the province in the near future to go to El Nido. 🙂
Good for you! Coron is still on my wish-list. You will love El Nido!
Hi Donna 🙂 I came upon your blog by chance but it was a good thing I did. I’m blessed by what you’ve written here. I’m a Filipino who is “city-bred”, spent all my life in Makati. Now I relocated to Palawan away from the hustle and bustle of Manila, for a business my sister and I put up. I’m finding it hard to adjust (just in the last two weeks I’ve been here) but it encourages me to know that you, an expat, has lived here longer than even before I was born. I also love that you are fulfilling the Great Commission by what you do with the translation of the Bible. I’d like to know more about that ministry. 🙂
Hi KZ – glad to ‘meet’ you! Transitions are always challenging. Give yourself time. I think you’ll come to adjust to the slower pace, and less glitzy life-style of Puerto after awhile. Two weeks only?! Good luck in your business endeavors.
Hi i am kavin, its my first occasion to commenting anyplace,
when i read this paragraph i thought i could also make comment due to
this brilliant piece of writing.
