Ka Inato – BBQ Chicken and Art in Puerto Princesa
Today we are featuring another of Puerto Princesa’s fun restaurants – Ka inatô. Ka inatô is set in a lovely garden, at the north end of town, along the National Highway. Ka inato is very popular with locals and tourists alike.
Popular menu items are the grilled chicken, smoked chicken fried rice, and shakes. The owners have filled their restaurant with art. No less than three fountains grace the grounds.
One of our favorite meals is the Tadyong ng Baboy, or grilled pork ribs. It is delicious! Just the right-size portion – not too big, not too small, with rice and vegetables, and a slice of fruit on the side. A complete meal. And what a bargain! At last visit, the price was 115 pesos, or about $2.87.
I absolutely love their kalamansi mint shakes! A perfect refreshment on a steamy day. Kalamansi is the local citrus – tangy little green balls with a lemon-lime flavor. When blended with ice and mint it cools one off so fast. Where have you been all my life, kalamansi mint shakes? Oops, I started to sluck it down before I took the picture.
Many patrons come for the BBQ chicken. It is also a wonderful bargain and a complete meal, at 95 pesos on our last visit. That’s about $2.40. Can’t beat that!
Ka inato is popular and always busy. But there are plenty of tables. We’ve never had to wait.
Art is everywhere – above the handwashing station, lining the walls, hanging from the ceiling.
Even the smoking area is attractive.
The entire length of the driveway leading to the back parking area is lined with these beautiful and unusual flowers. I had to do some research to learn what they are really called. I called them red bird of paradise, but they are actually called heliconia. Not a household name, at the tip of your tongue, is it? Heliconia are close relatives of gingers, bananas, birds-of-paradise and traveler’s palms. Nick-named lobster claws, or false bird-of-paradise they are native to the tropical Americas and the Pacific ocean islands. Apparently they love Palawan, as they are doing well here at Ka inato. I saw some at Ka Lui’s too. They ‘bloom’ in rainy season apparently, as when we visited Ka inato recently – not one of these red flowers was to be seen.
I’ll close off with another of Ka inato’s signature dishes – it’s a fish ceviche with crispy bits of fried pork. Very Palawan!
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention – there is a Ka inato right on Rizal Avenue, not too far from the airport, too. And apparently a branch has recently opened in Quezon City, Manila, as well.

Good food, reasonable prices, good service, and a genuine care for surroundings!
That sums it up well!
Yum! I’m hungry now!
glaze on the chicken looks yummy, but the mint drink would be so refreshing in the hot weather, lucky girl
