New Year’s Eve on Palawan – It Ain’t San Diego, Baby
by Donna Amis Davis
Top three signs that you aren’t in San Diego on December 31st:
1. Fireworks on New Year’s Eve instead of the Fourth of July.
2. Stall after stall of firecrackers for sale. They are illegal there, but not here. So be warned, New Year’s Eve gets crazy with sparkles, noise and smoke.
3. Piles of fresh young coconuts, called buko, appear everywhere. Buko Salad is served for special occasions all year round, but especially at New Year’s. The soft white meat of the coconut is scraped out, and added to fruit salad, with cream and sweetened condensed milk.
We’ll actually be in Manila on New Year’s Eve. And that’s a whole other blog post. New Year’s Eve in Manila is unlike any other place in the world.
What do you enjoy about New Year’s Eve where you live?
