Palawan, You Go! Travel + Leisure Votes Palawan #1 Island Overall
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO MY FAVORITE ISLAND! WOW! Travel+Leisure Magazine just announced the winners of their Best Of 2013, and Palawan made Number 1 Island Overall.
Here’s the link to the Travel+Leisure list.
So many factors contribute to an island being voted The Best. Palawan is home to the Puerto Princesa Underground River, which was named one of the Seven New Natural Wonders of the World. Beautiful beaches. Friendly people. Inexpensive prices. Great seafood. History. Endearing native animals (I LOVE them!) El Nido. There is so much to like about Palawan.
Our family had the privilege of moving to Palawan in 1983, and living there for most of the past 30 years. It was a quiet backwater place. When Filipinos heard we were moving there they either said, “It’s lonely there,” or “Plentiful seafood.” In those days there were lots of fish, but not so many people. We’ve seen the island grow and change. Now the world is catching on to Palawan’s charms. Now Filipinos hear we live on Palawan and say, “Beautiful beaches.” No one feels sorry for us anymore.
When we get a chance, our family loves to boat out to some of the beautiful islands and beaches. Our daughter, Bethy, visited on one of her college breaks, and we took a trip out to Coco Loco Resort.
Congratulations, Palawan!

That’s awesome! I live on Oriental Mindoro island, but really want to travel to Palawan and see Puerto Princesa.
The Philippines did really well on that list of islands in Travel+Leisure!
